Edward “Ted” Bunn 1928-2006

Edward “Ted” Bunn was one of AURCO's most ardent supporters. He became known to most faculty members regularly attending the annual AURCO conferences. He presented at conferences for over a decade, and the broad range of topics covered in his presentations reflected the diversity of interests he had pursued over his long and extraordinarily productive life.

Starting as an English instructor at the University of Pittsburgh, Ted became involved in radio as an announcer and advertising writer. He eventually became a marketing executive with major regional companies in industries ranging from meat processing to insurance.

Along the way, he developed a passion for history and an obsession with theater. He performed in and directed various plays with the Encore Theater group in Lima for almost half a century. He proved equally adept at dramatic, comedic, and even musical roles. Edward “Ted” Bunn was one of AURCO's most ardent supporters. Ted taught communication, economics, and marketing courses at Wright State University’s Lake Campus for almost two decades. As at AURCO, most people at the Lake Campus got to know Ted because he had a habit of introducing himself to just about everyone and had an unflagging curiosity about other people’s interests. He was a great talker, and he was also a great listener. His laugh was every bit as distinctive as his voice.

But Ted should be remembered for his great enthusiasm for teaching and tremendous pride in any student’s success. He was among the first faculty members to regularly include students as co-presenters at AURCO. (He very quietly covered those students’ expenses out of his pocket.) He would be very proud to know that the AURCO student awards have been named for him.
